ParIs cIty attractIons are globally well-known poInts!

Paris is in the to-go list of many people who are in love with traveling. This charming city offers everything from history to nightlife! If you are one of those travelers planning to visit Paris, here are the 10 places to see.

Notre-Dame

No doubt! We have to start our Paris city attractions list with this one. The Gothic cathedral, constructed between the 12th and 14th centuries, is a living witness of French history. The Île-de-la-Cité where Notre-Dame de Paris stands now was a Roman city known as Lutetia and the cathedral was built on the ruins of two churches on an earlier temple dedicated to Jupiter.

Notre-Dame Cathedral consists of a choir and apse, a short transept, and a nave flanked by double aisles and square chapels. After Victor Hugo’s historical novel Notre-Dame de Paris (1831), the cathedral also took attention. This is how gothic architecture has met fantastic creatures of modern architecture as a result of various restoration efforts.

The sad news is that on April 15, 2019, a fire broke out at the cathedral, enveloping the iconic spire and much of the roof. The building survived once more, but it needs some time for the next restoration. Notre-Dame Cathedral deserves to be in Paris travel plan! (And the entrance is free).

Sainte-Chapelle

Standing in Île-de-la-Cité, Sainte-Chapelle is also an example of Gothic style, but what make it stunning are the 1,113 stained glass windows. The colorful light inside the Chapelle is totally mesmerizing. Sainte-Chapelle was built between 1242-1248 in the courtyard of the Palais de la Cite. King Louis the IX had the chapel built to keep his collection of relics of Christ. You shouldn’t even miss visiting this building during your Paris visit. (Full price for the visitor older than 26 is 10€.)

Musée de Louvre

First of all, Louvre is the world’s largest art museum; so make sure that you have enough time to see it entirely! But do you really need to spare that long time of your Paris trip in this museum? A huge YES! Divided among eight departments, the collections feature works admired throughout the globe, including the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and the Venus de Milo. The most visited museum of the world contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in total. There are also series of temporary exhibitions. (Free admission on the first Saturday on each month from 6 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.)

Palais Garnier

As an architectural masterpiece, Palais Garnier is a magnificent building with its gilded interior. Built from 1861 to 1875 for the Paris Opera, Palais Garnier is still hosting amazing performances. The building is named after the architect Charles Garnier who was chosen to build the opera house out of 171 candidates. If you cannot attend one of the performances, you can also find some time to tour the building during the day.

Musée Jacquemart-André

Musée Jacquemart-André is the address where you can see the art collections; worthy of great museums in a magnificent Second Empire mansion. The museum was created from the private home of Édouard André (1833–1894) and Nélie Jacquemart (1841–1912) to display the art they collected during their lives. In this unique museum, you will find five major parts: The State Apartments, The Informal Apartments, The Winter Garden, The Italian Museum and The Private Apartments.

Centre Pompidou

If you are interested in postmodern and high-tech architectural style, you will definitely fall in love with Centre Pompidou. Its exterior escalators and enormous colored tubing will catch your attention at the very first sight. It is an important example of 20th-century architecture and it was designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. Today, this place is hosting the National Museum of Modern Art covering the works of iconic artists within the modern period and the contemporary period sections. If you are visiting Paris, do not miss the chance to meet the magnificent works of Matisse, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Anish Kapoor and many more.

Place des Vosges

Place des Vosges is the oldest square in Paris and located in the Marais district. You will see the classic French style of 17th-century architecture here. You can start your walk around Marais from the square after taking your time under the arches and before the beautiful facades of red brick. Do not miss this one among Paris city attractions.

Moulin Rouge

There is no doubt that the most famous cabaret in the world is the Moulin Rouge in Paris. It was opened in 1889 and has hosted numerous international celebrities such as Edith Piaf, Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra, and Elton John. With its decoration in red velvet and with typical burlesque frescoes, it is more than being a cabaret. Before knocking the doors of Moulin Rouge, keep in mind that it has its own dress code which does not allow shorts, bermuda, sportswear, sneakers, and flip-flops.

Jardin du Luxembourg

The gardens covering 25 hectares of land are offering two styles: French gardens and English gardens. There lie a geometric-shaped forest and a large pond between two gardens. This place is dazzling and totally different than other places you will see in many cities across the world. Do not miss taking a walk in Jardin du Luxembourg.

Eiffel Tower

One of the most famous landmarks of Paris and Paris city attractions (and even the world) is the Eiffel Tower. The tower is a total masterpiece in architecture with a height of 320 meters made of 8,000 metallic parts. Gustave Eiffel created the tower as a temporary exhibit for the Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair) in 1889. You can visit the tower from 9:00 in the morning to 00.45 at night and see the townscape from the tower by using fascinating elevators.
